The short answer, using Ava Travel’s own prices: on Bai Tu Long Bay, the season changes the price much less than on the other routes, at most $20 per person. So pick your month for the weather, not the price: October, November, March and April are best. For Christmas, New Year and Tet (6 February 2027) choose a ship with one price all year, Swan (from $135) or Larissa (from $197). For most other dates, Cycad is our first choice, from $175 in high season and $160 in low season.

Christmas, New Year and Tet 2027
Three Bai Tu Long ships keep one price all year: Swan ($135), Larissa ($197) and Prince ($220), and Renea moves by only $2. Swan is the budget choice, with small cabins (18 to 28 sqm). Larissa is the comfortable one, with a balcony on every cabin. Prince has only four cabins, so if your group is four couples you can have the whole boat, but with so few cabins it can sell out early on holiday dates. Some operators, Swan among them, add a compulsory gala dinner charge on 24 and 31 December and a surcharge over Tet, which is not in the page price, so message us before booking those nights.
Tet is Vietnam’s biggest holiday and the busiest week of the year for domestic travel. Boats still sail, but the roads to the coast are busy. Leave extra time on the drive from Hanoi, and book as soon as your dates are firm.
Summer 2027 and storm season
Between roughly June and October, the port authority stops boats sailing when a storm warning is issued. It is not frequent, but plan for it: keep a spare day in Hanoi after the cruise, and ask us about the operator’s weather policy before you book. Bai Tu Long ships leave from Halong International Cruise Port in Bai Chay, about 2.5 to 3 hours from Hanoi, so a morning delay also shortens your first day.
For families in the school holidays, Signature has two family suites, the larger one 45 sqm with two double beds and a balcony, from $179 per person in low season with four sharing. Cycad has a 36 sqm Family Balcony on a 2025 ship, from $170 per person with four sharing. Neither has a pool; if a pool matters, look at Capella on Lan Ha Bay.
